Burst cut
A variation of the razor blade cutting method is the burst cut. Instead of a fixed blade, a thin circular knife rotating at high speed and with a very sharp cutting edge is used. In the bursting cut process, the sharp-ground circular knife is driven with a high lead compared to the material web speed. In this process, the circular knife dips into the material web between two deflection rollers. Alternatively, the material to be cut wraps around a support shaft provided with cutting grooves, into which the circular knife dips without contact. The lower support shaft is generally driven at web speed.
