Razor blade cut
Ultra-thin plastic and metal foils in particular can be cut economically with razor blades. The blade, which protrudes with part of the cutting edge, enters at a shallow angle during the razor blade cut and cuts the continuous film web.
Basically, there are two ways to cut with razor blades:
- The razor blade dips into the material web between two guide or deflection shafts located at short distances from one another.
- The razor blade dips into the groove of a bush, whereby one is bound to the respective groove with regard to the cutting widths.
DIENES Know-How
The grooved bushings for razor blade cutting are usually pushed onto a shaft and clamped laterally with ring nuts. Depending on customer requirements and operating conditions, we can offer these bushings in different material designs.
- Steel natural hard
- Steel hardened
- Stainless steel natural hard
- Steel stainless hardened
For weight saving reasons (the spec. weight of aluminum alloys is about 1/3 of steel) we can produce grooved bushings from aluminum with a hard coat wear layer. If necessary, the bushings can also be supplied balanced.
Pitch and slot width is determined by the customer. Pitches of 2 / 2.5 / 3 or 5 mm and slot widths of 0.8 / 1.0 or 1.2 mm are common.
In the case of surface-sensitive foils, it is customary to grind over the complete lower blade shaft assembly in the assembled state. Therefore, the razor blade bushings are manufactured with a corresponding oversize.
Razor blade knife holder.
Razor blade knife holders can be operated both mechanically and pneumatically. The razor blade, clamped in a holder and with part of a cutting edge protruding, dips into a shaft or bush provided with a plurality of grooves.
The holders required to hold the blades come in a variety of designs:
- Mechanical holders for mounting on a shaft for cutting widths from 5 mm.
- Blade adapters for Dienes pneumatically operated crush knife holders of types PQDS / PQAS.
- Quick-change head systems, i.e. blade holders that can be used for both razor blade and scissor cutting.
The ceramic blades necessary for the above holder designs are of course available from stock.
